June S. Hanner, 91, of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Covington, KY on October 26, 1927 the daughter of the late Herbert and Lola Woodson Simmons, moved to Troy, Ohio and graduated from Troy High School. She met and married John Hanner on August 2, 1947, and lived in Troy until August 1969 when they moved to Clarksburg, WV. They lived on their farm in WV where they raised cows and horses, and then retired to Swansboro, NC in 1986. After her husband’s passing in 1994, she remained in Swansboro, NC until her passing.
Surviving are two sons, Greg Hanner of Clarksburg, WV and Steve Hanner of Moody, TX: one daughter, Brenda Short of Clarksburg, WV, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Bob Simmons of Orlando, FL as well as various cousins, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Don Simmons and one son-in-law, Michael Short.
June was a homemaker. She attended Swansboro United Methodist Church and was a member of Queen Ester Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at United Hospital Center for several years. Her passion was golf, as she was an excellent golfer, and she was a member of Clarksburg Country Club. She also belonged to various bridge clubs and excelled at bowling.
