William Bane (Bill) Hicks III, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. Born December 8, 1943, in Biloxi MS, Bill, the only child of the late William “Buddy” Hicks and Betty Lou (Neff) Hicks, spent the majority of his 82 years in Buckhannon, WV.

Bill graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1962 and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1966, then received his MBA from Stephen F. Austin University in the early 1970s. After graduation from Wesleyan, he worked for Kelly Springfield Tire in Maryland and Texas, and Cantex Inc. in Texas before the hills of Buckhannon, WV called him home in 1977 where he remained except for a recent, short stay in the Elison at Maplewood in Bridgeport, WV. Upon return to WV, he worked in the mining industry, for J.D. Hinkle and Sons Inc., and at WVWC.

His love for his Upshur County roots was evident from the joy he found fishing, feeding wildlife, reading about local events, or talking about the history of the area. He enjoyed playing bridge, family vacations at the beach, traveling abroad in recent years, getting a bargain at an auction, and collecting antiques, but truly had a passion for philately. This lifetime activity of collecting stamps began when he was hospitalized with polio at the age of six and continued even after his move to the Elison.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Stein and Stella Neff, paternal grandparents William Bane “Will” and Mary Glen (Snyder) Hicks, and many aunts and uncles.

Bill is survived by three sons, William Scott Hicks and wife Suzette of Letart, WV, Steven Hicks and wife Robin of Clarksburg, WV, Jonathan Hicks and wife Virginia of Buckhannon, WV; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Hicks, Bailey Perry and husband Anthony, William Mason Hicks and wife Whitney, Lily Hicks and Ryan Wright, Christian Hicks and wife Sofia, Emma Wyre and husband Chris, Bianca Hicks, and Bramer Hicks; three great-grandchildren Oliver Perry, Elliott Perry, and William Graham Hicks; one great-grandchild due to arrive in May; his partner Peggy; the mother of his children, Kathy Payton; and several cousins.

Bill’s wish for cremation has been honored. Following a private inurnment at Heavener Grove cemetery in Buckhannon, a memorial service officiated by family friend, Pastor Clark Baisden, will be held in the American Legion Post 7, 16 Kanawha St. Buckhannon, WV at 12noon on Saturday April 25, 2026 followed by a time for friends and loved ones to visit and share memories of Bill.

Olga Alastanos, 94, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, following a brief illness. She was born October 29, 1931, in Chios Greece, the daughter of the late John and Argenie Monogioudis Serafim.

Olga is survived by her two sons, Michael George Alastanos and wife Rebecca, and John George Alastanos and wife Sandi, all of Bridgeport. She leaves behind four grandchildren—Tiffany Alastanos-Martin and husband John, Jennifer Gemmellaro and husband John, Alexis Marie Alastanos, and Matthew George Alastanos, and fiancé Sarah Jenkins—as well as her great-grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Gemmellaro and Sophia Ann Martin, and several nieces and nephews.

Alongside her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, George; her brother, Gus; and her sister, Katina.

Olga grew up in Chios, Greece and came to the United States in 1957 with her late husband George. Since coming to the United States, she has been an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She really enjoyed working the pastry tables at the Greek food festival and socializing with the many friends she had made since moving here from Greece. Olga worked for many years as a seamstress at Broidas, the Crickett Shoppe and at her house on Grant Street. She utilized her seamstress skills to make and repair various items of women’s and men’s clothes and had developed many friendships with her customers over the years.

Olga also loved to cook and bake. She always looked forward to treating her family, friends and visitors with something she had whipped up. You could never visit Olga without getting something good to eat whether it was some meal she was preparing or some Greek pastry she had stashed away for company. Her Baklava was as good as it gets.

We would like to thank the staff at Bridgeport Health Care, especially Ella, Brandi, Megan and Taylor who really bonded with Olga. We also want to thank the caregivers who became close to Olga over the past few years. Heather Murphy, Vicki Perris, Chrystal Tichnell, Tammy Swiger, and Amy Seckman, which formed the A team, whose efforts were greatly appreciated by Olga and her family.

She will be remembered as a wife, mother, Yiayia, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 4176, Clarksburg, WV.

While Tim loved all his aunts and uncles, he was particularly fond of his late Uncle Bill Toquinto who was the forebear of Tim’s sense of humor. He was also very fond of his Aunt Pam Thompson who gave freely of her time to talk with him regularly until his final days.

Tim was a fiercely proud 1985 graduate of Liberty High School where he cemented friendships, similar to those made at North View Junior High School, that remain to this day. He was particularly proud of leading a group of students known as “the Rowdies” that created an organized and chaotic uproar at Liberty basketball games during his time at the Davisson Run school.

His professional career began and ended with the Kmart store located at Eastpointe, working decades there in various capacities, much of which saw him supervising the overnight crews and stocking of the store. Tim found family in those he worked with and because of that he managed to turn a mundane job into an experience filled with laughter and joyous uncertainty.

If there was one thing that stood out, Tim loved to make people laugh. If his gift from God was a sense of humor, those who knew him know he did not put it to waste or take it lightly. If you were a victim of one of his remarks it was a sure sign he loved you, and a sure sign that it would happen again.

Tim also loved making people smile by providing for them. The ultimate bargain hunter, if he found something during his days at Kmart, he would buy it for you or would get it for you. He had a giving nature not just in material things, but in demanding that you take something he had when visiting him.

As for personal joy, he loved watching and usually venting about sports. An avid West Virginia University fan, he was also a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Boston Red Sox, the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team, and the Philadelphia 76ers. If he had a final sports wish, it would be for Bob Nutting to sell the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While he was ready to talk sports at any moment, he would rather talk about his son Camron. There was no greater joy in his world than the presence of his son. Until health issues forced him to Ohio, if you saw Tim out and about, you would almost certainly see Camron with him. Camron was not only his son, but his best friend. He was proud of his son who inherited his father’s wit and is mature beyond his years.

For more than a year, Tim’s health led him to be cared for Riverside Landing Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Ohio. He made the most of a situation that most would find difficult at best in a place more than two hours from home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside. They made him seen, they cared for him, they provided dignity, and it was obvious during family visits with him that he loved the staff and the staff loved him. We will forever be grateful for another cast of strangers who became another family and cared for him when he no longer could care entirely for himself.

In keeping with the family wishes, cremation services were held for Tim.
