Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm where a service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Fred Aves presiding. Interment will follow in the Stonewall Park Cemetery.

Anna Beatrice “Ann” Black Garrett, 84, of Clarksburg, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, and now is in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Ann was born on June 30, 1937, in Washington, PA, a daughter of the late Oscar and Roseanna Taylor Black.

She is survived by her three sons, Jerry DeMarco Garrett and his wife Susan of Clarksburg, Larry Darnell Garrett and his wife Brenda of Double Spring, AL, and Fred Wesley Garrett and wife Kimberly of Clarksburg; two grandchildren, Joshua Owens and his children Justin, Memorie and Serenity Owens, and Honey Williams and her children Janiah Williams and Halo Horton; one brother, Arthur Lee Black and his wife Mary of OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Veronica Seaborne; siblings, Mary Jo Harmon, James Black, Oscar Black Jr., Devon Black, Alberta Woodward, John Black, Lorraine Black, Charles Black, and Melvin Black; as well as the father to her children, Jerry “Hope” Garrett.

Ann was a graduate of Kelly Miller High School, being part of the last graduating class in 1956. She attended barber college in Parkersburg and was the first black woman to own a barbershop in Clarksburg when she opened Ann’s Barber Shop. She had various other jobs and worked at the Continental Can Factory as well as becoming a real estate saleswoman starting in 1978 and became a real estate broker in 1990. She worked at the A & P Store, as well as Stone and Thomas Department Store. She retired from Auto Zone after 17 years of service as a sales representative. She was also an author of a book.

She was a born-again Christian and a member of Christian Assembly of God. She attended Bible College in Monroeville, PA. She held her faith close to her heart and was a member of her church’s prayer group as well as a prayer warrior. She loved sending cards to the sick and those who needed it most. She always enjoyed witnessing to others but got her greatest joy from raising her children.
