Betty E. Starkey, 87, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on January 9, 2017 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport.

 

She was born on May 24, 1929, in Rachel, WV, the daughter of the late John S. and Opal Ayers.

 

Mrs. Starkey is survived by her daughter, Teresa “Terry” Fazio and her husband John of Clarksburg; her son John R. Snider of Washington, KY; stepsons, Charles Starkey of Cumberland, MD and Harold J. Starkey and wife Shirley of Tyler, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kara Sherrell and husband Marc of Milton, PA; Christopher Fazio of Clarksburg, Christy Jones and husband Chad of Burke, VA, Rebecca Snider Thoroughman and husband Cam of Gonzalez, Louisiana;  step-grandchildren, Richard Starkey and wife Jennifer of AK, Amanda Vasquez and husband Jesse of Forney, TX Andrew Starkey and wife Shannon of Tyler, TX, Dawn Starkey of VA, Brian Starkey of AK; five great grandchildren, Sabastian John Grilli, Milton, PA, Sophia Grace Sherrell of Milton, PA, Connor Jones, Caiden Jones of Alexandria, VA, and Gavin Thoroughman of Gonzalez, Louisiana, several great grandchildren in AK, TX and VA;  and two nieces, Jana Ayers and Jayme Gibbs.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Reverend Charles Starkey; and her brother, Don L. Ayers.

 

Betty retired from the CNG payroll department with 25 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Harrison County Senior Citizens, where she was a former volunteer, and a volunteer for People’s Hospice. She was a member of the United Methodist Temple, Freda Payne Circle, United Methodist Women, and a 50-year member of the Queen Esther #11 Order of the Eastern Star. She was involved in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and a supporter of the Heritage Craft in Quiet Dell.

 

Mrs. Starkey generously donated her body to West Virginia University.

 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Bridgeport Nursing and Rehab for the love and care they gave to Betty during her stay.

 

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Temple, 665 Locust Avenue, Clarksburg, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplin James Riggs presiding.
