Jack Lester Carter, 89, of Virginia Beach, VA, died on April 1, 2022. He was born August 7, 1932, in Clarksburg, WV.

He was the son and only child of the late Lester and Gloris Williams Carter. Jack spent most of his childhood in Nutter Fort.

He graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School in 1949, and Fairmont State College in 1953, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After completing his education, he served our country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, achieving the National Defense Service Medal.

He was twice married.

Jack was preceded in death by his best and life-long friends, Bill Harrison, Joe Kopshina, Harry Jett, Bob Wolfe, and John W. Carter. Devoted friend, Hugh Aynesworth, survives. Especially dear to Jack were his very close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Kay (Harrison) Haddox, of Virginia Beach, who greatly helped and cared for Jack during his final years. Also surviving are his cousins, Clara Jean Fortier, Tom Williams (Gladys), Polly Tenda (Donald), David Patsy, and Billy Patsy.

Jack had a distinguished career. After college he worked briefly at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, served in the military, and then held high management positions at Coca-Cola, Black Label, R.C. Cola, and was General Manager of Hecht Distributing, Norfolk, VA . After retirement, he held part time positions at AAA (American Automobile Association), and Bay Screening (Printing) of Norfolk.

Jack was generous, and greatly supported The Children’s Hospital, as well as other charities. He will be long-remembered and missed by family and friends.
