Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.  A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bryant Bailey officiating.

Melvin Jay Smith went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 13, 2020.  He was born on May 6, 1952 to the late Wayne Carl Smith and Mary Jane Smith who survives in Clarksburg.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his Uncle & Aunt, John and Lorraine Smith; several Cousins, Trish and Junior Armstead, Johnny Ray Smith, Deedee Elliott, Trina Cain, Chad and Valerie Elliott, Jeremy and Kristin Elliott, Randy Elliott, and Andy Cain.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jeffrey and James Smith.

Jay was a lifetime member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church. In his younger days he enjoyed participating in Bowling and Bocce with Special Olympics. He liked to listen to Elvis and the Beatles.

 

Jay loved his job at The Harrison County Sheltered Workshop where he worked for over 25 years. Jay would wait for the bus with his packed lunch of a cheese spread sandwich and a Twinkie.  He really liked to get together with family and friends.

 

Jay will be sadly missed by his family, his Arc of Harrison County family, and his friends at the Harrison County Sheltered Work Shop.
