Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Russell Furr presiding. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Mildred “Sue” Brown Kearns, 77, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Clarksburg Continuous Care, with her niece, Lorri Hickman, by her side.

She was born in Sutton, WV, on October 16, 1944, a daughter of the late Isaac Rush and Rema Mildred Ratliff Brown.

Her husband of nearly 21 years, Charles D. Kearns, preceded her in death on July 31, 2011.

Mrs. Kearns is survived by her stepdaughter, Lori Alicia Wilke and husband Chris of Phoenix, AZ, granddaughter, Kaylyn Wilke and grandson, Connor Wilke. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Isaac Brown and wife Susan of Roanoke, WV, Daniel Rush Brown and wife Susie of Roanoke, WV, and Jimmy Lynn Brown and wife Sandy of St. Clairsville, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Ann Cleveland and Ginger Lee Vincent.

Sue was a graduate of Burnsville High School Class of 1963. She was a graduate of Glenville State College and went on to earn her Master of Social Sciences Degree from West Virginia University. She previously worked for Lewis County Board of Education as a Librarian and was a member of the WV State Library Commission with 20 years of service as the Librarian at the Weston State Hospital.

Mrs. Kearns was a member of the United Methodist Temple, WV Education Association, and the National Education Association.

Sue was an avid golfer formerly holding memberships at Clarksburg Country Club, Sunny Croft Country Club, Green Hills Country Club, and Bel Meadow. She was also a former member of the Clarksburg League for Service and was a volunteer in the library at Washington Irving Middle School.
