Timothy James “Tim” Toquinto, 59, of North View and most recently of Riverside Landing Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in McConnelsville, Ohio, passed away, March 29, 2026, peacefully.
Tim was born March 4, 1967, the son of Tony J. Toquinto and the late Nancy Hendren Toquinto Holt. He is survived by his son Camron Surock, who resides in Clarksburg.
In addition to his son and father, Tim is survived by his two siblings, Melinda Toquinto Alonso of Clarksburg, along with Jeff Toquinto and wife Valerie (Romano) of Clarksburg. Tim is also survived by his niece Jordan Mitchell McGrath and husband Josh, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, and his stepfather James Holt of Saltwell.
Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by his beloved niece Nina Alonso whom he affectionately dubbed “Chicky Monkey,” his maternal grandparents Charles Thurman and Mary Newbraugh Hendren, and his paternal grandparents James Toquinto, and Lou Jean and Steve Dzurilla. Several aunts and uncles, as well as several of his closest friends (Dennis Underwood, Rusty Mazzie, Mike Mazzie, Amy McIntyre that were like siblings) also preceded him in death.
While Tim loved all his aunts and uncles, he was particularly fond of his late Uncle Bill Toquinto who was the forebear of Tim’s sense of humor. He was also very fond of his Aunt Pam Thompson who gave freely of her time to talk with him regularly until his final days.
Tim was a fiercely proud 1985 graduate of Liberty High School where he cemented friendships, similar to those made at North View Junior High School, that remain to this day. He was particularly proud of leading a group of students known as “the Rowdies” that created an organized and chaotic uproar at Liberty basketball games during his time at the Davisson Run school.
His professional career began and ended with the Kmart store located at Eastpointe, working decades there in various capacities, much of which saw him supervising the overnight crews and stocking of the store. Tim found family in those he worked with and because of that he managed to turn a mundane job into an experience filled with laughter and joyous uncertainty.
If there was one thing that stood out, Tim loved to make people laugh. If his gift from God was a sense of humor, those who knew him know he did not put it to waste or take it lightly. If you were a victim of one of his remarks it was a sure sign he loved you, and a sure sign that it would happen again.
Tim also loved making people smile by providing for them. The ultimate bargain hunter, if he found something during his days at Kmart, he would buy it for you or would get it for you. He had a giving nature not just in material things, but in demanding that you take something he had when visiting him.
As for personal joy, he loved watching and usually venting about sports. An avid West Virginia University fan, he was also a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Boston Red Sox, the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team, and the Philadelphia 76ers. If he had a final sports wish, it would be for Bob Nutting to sell the Pittsburgh Pirates.
While he was ready to talk sports at any moment, he would rather talk about his son Camron. There was no greater joy in his world than the presence of his son. Until health issues forced him to Ohio, if you saw Tim out and about, you would almost certainly see Camron with him. Camron was not only his son, but his best friend. He was proud of his son who inherited his father’s wit and is mature beyond his years.
For more than a year, Tim’s health led him to be cared for Riverside Landing Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Ohio. He made the most of a situation that most would find difficult at best in a place more than two hours from home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside. They made him seen, they cared for him, they provided dignity, and it was obvious during family visits with him that he loved the staff and the staff loved him. We will forever be grateful for another cast of strangers who became another family and cared for him when he no longer could care entirely for himself.
In keeping with the family wishes, cremation services were held for Tim.
