Nina Grace Alonso, 23 of Nutter Fort, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Nina was born three months early on June 4, 2002. There were minor complications after being born prematurely. She remained at the N-ICU for the next 2.5 months and eventually came home to Mom and Dad. She lived at home from that day until the time she passed.

To sum up a life not fully realized is difficult; it was a book left largely unwritten. Some brief, incomplete highlights are to follow. While her parents’ union did not last, she had a
close relationship with her maternal grandmother and mother as she developed into a young woman. She readily accepted a step-sister (Sierra) at a very young age, followed later by her brother (Chris). She spent quality time with her siblings well into young adulthood, and particularly doted on her little brother.

Her early years consisted of pre-school, kindergarten, and grade school at Nutter Fort Elementary. Extracurricular activity included active participation in The Studio for the Performing Arts from the age of four to approximately 6th grade. She had weekly dance practice and a yearly recital, and sometimes other events in which she also participated.

Nina graduated RCB High School (from home, due to the COVID pandemic) in 2020. While in school, she was a member of the Humane Society Club. She also developed a prolific love for the written word. During this time, between family pets at home and encouragement at school, she developed a love and caring for animals in general and cats in specific. She even performed animal rescues on multiple occasions, well into adulthood.

Nina also briefly attended Fairmont State University following high school. When she wasn’t in school or tied up in a project, you could frequently find her on the swing in the front yard. She at times would spend hours on it. Nina decided to enter the workforce and began working at the ARC of Harrison County as a CSS/Behavioral Health Technician. She along with her sister
would work here for the next three years. Eventually Nina then followed her sister to Highland Hospital, where the two worked together until the day Nina passed.

In life, Nina had a few hobbies. She was an avid baker, often not satisfied with a given recipe and would tweak it to her liking. She had a crafty side to her, often sewing decorative patches onto her purse and eventually changing them out to further suit her tastes. She had a well-developed artistic sense, often manifesting as doodles on random bits of paper, you name it.
She assembled model ships. She enjoyed reading, and a passing interest in space in science (in particular, the Voyager program). She liked her candles and wax warmers, taking comfort in them. She earned the title “World’s Pickiest Eater” through her stubbornness in likes/dislikes with a variety of foods. She did, however, absolutely love cheese.

For other aspects of her life, she absolutely loved “Law and Order” and “House” TV series. She played all types of video games, like Stray, Minecraft, and Pokémon. Nina also collected
Pokémon plushies. Nina’s choice of music is largely uncertain due to the constant usage of headphones, but at one time she liked Marina and the Diamonds and she definitely liked the old
school “I Heard a Rumor” from Banarama.

She was very kind hearted and never said a mean word about or to anyone. Some of the very last words of wisdom far exceeding her years, was expressed wishes “to be gentle, to be happy” to those she left behind.
She is survived by her father, Antony Alonso; her mother, Melinda Alonso; her step mother, Billie McIntyre; her siblings Christopher Alonso and Sierra Posey; her maternal grandfather Tony Toquinto; her paternal grandmother Nanci Kotowski; her aunt, Tamar Kotowski; her uncles, Jeff and Tim Toquinto; and nine loving cats.

She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Nancy Holt.
