Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 11:00 am, where friends and family will be encouraged to share stories of John, being led by his longtime family friend, Gary Gaskins. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery.

John F. Morton, 77, of Bridgeport passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.

He was born in Clarksburg on July 11, 1948, a son of the late John Morton, Jr. and Emma Belle Howell Morton.

He is survived by his son, Brian Morton of Bridgeport; three grandchildren, Erica Boyd, Rachel Suite (Sam) and Ryan Morton; two great grandchildren, Wyatt Boyd and Logan Crumbliss; one brother, Jack Morton of Clarksburg; one sister, Sandra Barrick and husband Roger of Hilton Head, SC; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Pam Morton, and Mark and Celesta Sanders; and lifelong friends, Donnie and Francie Snyder, and Richard and Rita Bailey.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sandra K. Edwards Morton; two sons, John F. Morton, II and Chad E. Morton; and one brother, James D. Smith.

Mr. Morton was a graduate of Victory High School. He worked at Star Motor and Dan Cava as a salesman and sales manager and co-owned East Point Pre-Owned Auto with his long-time friend, Cheryl Friend. John enjoyed golfing, riding Harleys with his friends, playing poker and loved all cars. Even while battling Parkinson’s disease, and later cancer, John remained strong, independent, and deeply devoted to his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy.
