Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Monday from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Reverend Don Fowler presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Barbour County.

Joan Hunt Spencer, 87, of Clarksburg passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in the United Hospital Center with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Philippi, WV, on September 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Buddy Hunt and Martha Margaret Sandy Hunt.

She was married to Bill L. Spencer on October 23, 1959, who preceded her in death on August 29, 2019.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Terry Spencer of Clarksburg. Her brother, Ronald Hunt of Bridgeport; sister-in-law Phyllis Spencer of Nutter Fort; nephew and nieces Mark Spencer, Kim Bizjak, Jackie Patterson and Cindy Freeland, along with several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Weekley; brothers and sisters-in-law Norman “Lee” Weekley, Judy Hunt, Robert M. Spencer, Marilyn Ann Freeland, and Jack Freeland; one nephew Shon Spencer; one niece Crystal Tenda; one great niece Mattie Tenda; and her long-time best friend Connie Lantz.

Joan was a graduate of Philippi High School, Class of 1956. She formerly worked at the Grafton Shirt Factory, and Haught and Rayle on 4th Street in Clarksburg. She was a member of the Judith Esther Circle of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church. She had a passion for various types of crafting, woodworking, crocheting and sewing. She loved to work with her hands and turn simple things into special things. She also enjoyed gardening and her flower beds. Above all, she loved her family. She was a loyal friend, a great neighbor, and loved being “Momma” to many special people in her life. She will be missed by all.
