Michael Bernard Folio

Michael Bernard Folio, 65, of Charleston, WV passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston following a brief illness.

Mike was born on August 3, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clarksburg, WV, to the late Bernard Joseph and Kathryn Andrew Folio.

One of six children, Mike is survived by the following siblings and their spouses; Joseph and Lee Ann Folio of Clarksburg, Victor Folio of Clarksburg, Patrick Folio of Clarksburg, and Maria and Michael Patrick of Morgantown. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Kathryn “Katie” and William “Will” Segal of Rockville, MD, Andrew and Angela Folio of Morgantown, Alexander Folio of Philadelphia, Christopher Folio of Charleston, Sarah and Pablo Visedo of Murcia, Spain, Ryan Patrick of Rochester, NY Allison Patrick, and Carter Patrick of Morgantown. Great nieces and nephew include Kathryn “Zippy” Segal, Eleanor “Ellie” Segal, and Gideon Segal of Rockville, MD, Lena Folio and Ceceilia Folio of Morgantown, and Valentina Visedo of Murcia, Spain (Who was delivered only hours prior to Mike’s passing). He was a proud Godfather to nephew Chris and to Allison LaRosa. Mike is also survived by many extended family members, good friends, and co-workers.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, the late Kathryn Virginia Folio.

Mike was educated in the parochial and public schools of Clarksburg; graduating in 1978 from Washington Irving High School and from the College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University in 1982. Although he possessed the verbal ability of a drunken sailor, Mike was a devout Roman Catholic. He was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral where he occasionally served as an usher. At his childhood parish, Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksburg, he was as an altar server.

Michael was an executive with the family business, North Central Distributors, a statewide beverage wholesaler. Based in Charleston, he handled the Southern West Virginia operations for over 40 years. An avid fan of WVU athletic teams, Mike enjoyed attending football games both at home and away. His hero was Roberto Clemente, and he faithfully followed Pirates baseball. But, like most of his family, he would also root for the New York Yankees. Mike liked the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguin’s Hockey. As a teenager, his love of ice hockey extended to spray painting goal lines and faceoff circles on the backyard’s new concrete pad, much to the dismay of his father. However, his mother didn’t seem to mind.

Mike maintained memberships in the Knights of Columbus, WVU Alumni Association, Mountaineer Athletic Club, as well as many trade and industry organizations. He also enjoyed supporting local charitable and cultural groups such as the Clay Center, WV Music Hall of Fame, and Charleston YWCA Girls Night Out to name a few.

Mike was larger than life. He always enjoyed a great tailgate as well as walking through the halls of the state capital visiting with legislators.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and admiration to the caring staff of the fifth-floor ICU at CAMC. All of you possess a special calling and your kindness (both small and large) will not be forgotten. And much appreciation to Mike’s coterie of friends, staff, and “family” who offered and gave so much in their visits and support. Thank you.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Tuesday from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Father Freddie D’Souza as Celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
