Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St, Nutter Fort on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, where a service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at 6:00 pm with Pastor Carl Radcliff presiding. In keeping with her wishes, Jean will be cremated following the service.

Jean Elsa Hammer Wharton, 79, of Clarksburg, WV passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

She was born on July 12, 1946, in Washington D.C., a daughter of the late William B. and Ruth “Patsy” Beard Hammer.

Jean is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert Grover “Bob” Wharton who survives at their home in Clarksburg; one son, Trevor Warne and wife Courtney of Richmond, VA; one daughter, Shannon Warne Gavaert and husband Alan of Pittsburgh, PA; one stepdaughter, Jamie Lynn Hammermann and husband David; two step-grandchildren, Daniella and Nicholas Hammermann; and one sister, Carol Clevenger of Bridgeport.

Jean was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School in Ohio and attended Kent State University. She worked as a salesperson for Hartland Planing Mill, residential and commercial estimator for Schlicker’s Construction, and retired as an estimator from Elkview Builders.

Jean loved nature, whether she was hiking or camping, or spending the summer months boating at Tygart Lake; she loved being outdoors. In addition, Jean was a Ham Radio operator, talented artist, and even made custom Christmas cards every year with her own artwork.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made in Jean’s honor to the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Rd, Shinnston, WV 26431.
