Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm with Pastor Harry Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Seventh Day Baptist Church Cemetery, following the service. Dorothy Lee Harris Betonte, 100, of Bridgeport passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.

She was born in Nutter Fort on September 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Thomas and Dessie Morris Harris.

She was married to Lewis Betonte whom she married in March, 1946 and who preceded her in death in 1986.

Surviving are one son, Anthony Lewis Betonte and his wife Hilde of Bridgeport; 38 grandchildren and great grandchildren, Christannia, Soren, Kimberly, Lisa, Carlos, Steve, Jason, Ryan, Derrick, Kelliann, Timothy, Justina, Jennifer, Dane, Anthony, Trey, Sydney, Mark, Tracey, Shelley, Brandon, Hayley, Tara, Tommy, Randy, Jackie, David, Kimberly, Sydney Paige, Matthew, Lory, Matthew T., Donald, Tomisha, Myzhara, Cazira, Heather, and Andrew; and three sisters, Margaret Smith of Palm City, FL, Clarice Jenkins and her husband Harry of Stonewood and Linda Linger of Clarksburg.

She was also preceded in death by four grandchildren, Ryan, Wesley, Valinda and David; one brother, Lawrence Harris; and two sisters, Betty Hardman and Goldie Gray.

Mrs. Betonte was a graduate of Lost Creek High School and was the owner and operator of Quality Foods in Nutter Fort.

Dorothy got her ‘determination’ in life by starting work with the telephone company. From there she met the love of her life Lewis Betonte and started a feed store in Nutter Fort. They then opened and operated Quality Foods in Nutter Fort in 1949. From there they built their own Par 3 Golf Course in 1966, located in Anmoore.

Dorothy loved golf and ‘broke the mold’ for women playing golf. She was a Master Golfer and lifelong member of Bridgeport Country Club with her husband. She was a very active member of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was in the sewing groups, prepared many meals, taught Sunday School and worked with the Youth and church camps.

Dorothy was a loving mother who made education the top priority, even encouraging her son Anthony to pursue the French language which shaped his life. She was very proud of her son and his travels, ability to work with people and teach all over the world. Dorothy loved to travel and teach. She was a very wise woman and belonged to an investment club. She belonged to a local women’s group, meeting to play cards a few times a week. To ALL of her grandchildren she taught life skills including packing groceries, picking up golf balls and running the golf club house and of course Playing the game of Golf. She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew and loved her.
