Jack Waitman Goodwin, 96 of Clarksburg, WV passed away on March 5th, 2026 at the River Oaks Nursing facility in Nutter Fort, WV surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 13, 1929.
He was the son of William Exel Goodwin and Marguerite (Margie) Lyden Dilly Goodwin Lawson. He was a devoted loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother.
Jack attended Washington Irving High School then enlisted in the Navy and met up with his older brothers James Goodwin, Fred Goodwin and Don Goodwin, all Navy men. He served as a Pattern Maker aboard the USS Orian for five years during the Koren War. After Jack returned from his service duties, he met the love of his life Sylvia Eleanor Heidelmeier from Clarksburg. They were married for 43 years and had two children Mark Alan Goodwin and William (Bill) Kent Goodwin of Clarksburg. Jack was a talented Harmonica player, wood worker, and handy man. He worked as a Maintenance man at a local glass house then Ingersol Rand as an assembler/welder and Foreman. Jack loved to work and looked forward to the next project. He built his home, his brother’s home and his son’s home. Jack was a member of Sunny Croft Country Club where he made many supporting friends after the death of his wife Sylvia.
He is survived by his two sons Mark Alan (Crystal) Goodwin and William “Bill” (Nancy) Goodwin, Grandchildren Amy Goodwin Mercer, Stephanie Fernandez Goodwin, Gregory Goodwin, and Justin Goodwin. Six great grandchildren Mason Mercer, Logan Anglin, Kylee Anglin, Harper Fernandez, Camden Fernandez and Jackson Goodwin.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sylvia, brothers James W. Goodwin, Donald Goodwin, Fred Goodwin, sister Betty Lee Goodwin Sparks and daughter-in-law Cheryl Lee Ashcraft Goodwin.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Goodwin will be cremated.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter fort on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, where a memorial service will be held at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation with Reverend Tim Kelley presiding.
Inurnment will be in the WV National Cemetery on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm where full military graveside rites will be accorded.
