Jim was born at home in Stonewood, WV, on October 15, 1946, to the late Rexil Kenneth and Marguerite Orndorff McClain.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sharon Stemen McClain, whom he married on August 10, 1968, and by his nine children: Jason McClain (Jessica), Jonathan McClain, Susanna Berg (Scott), Joseph McClain (Lisa), Sarah Knight, Joshua McClain, Sherah Kraan (Joshua), Saron Wilt, and Joel McClain.

He will be lovingly remembered by his 18 grandchildren: Caitlin, Kelsey, and Cara McClain; Emma, Mary, and David Berg; Josiah, Abigail, and Kailey McClain; Elijah Knight (Lexi) and Bethany Knight; Joanna, Sarenna, Lincoln, Garrett, Keerath, and Margolise Kraan; and Elise Wilt.

He leaves behind his beloved siblings, Larry McClain and Carol Glowski (Dan); brothers-in-law, Dan Stemen (Terri) and Dave Stemen (Jennifer); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his two infant children, Joanna and Jeremy McClain, and by his sister, Brenda McClain Drowns. Jim graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School and Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Seminary. He was a Pastor, most recently at Jones Run Independent Church in Lumberport and a Teacher, Coach, and Principal at Emmanuel Christian School. He deeply appreciated nature, music, and storytelling. He loved to cook and share hearty meals and laughter with his family. And he served the Lord faithfully, preaching the Gospel with joyful fervor everywhere he went.
