Karen Sue Fortune, 70, of Worcester, MA, previously of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 14, 2025.
She was born on June 13, 1954 in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Nina Mae Nicholson.
Karen married Douglas Fortune who survives at their home in Worcester, along with their dog, Sambo.
Also surviving are one daughter, Buffy Ashcraft of Longs, SC; nieces and nephews, Tina Bumgardner and husband Shawn, Roberta Colquicocha and husband Luis, Nick Nicholson and wife Luann, Dawn Swiger and husband Wade, Toni Colson and husband Jason, Victoria Buffey, Willie Nicholson and wife Jennifer, Michael Brown and wife Emily, and Jessica Hogue; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, Karen is preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Nicholson and Betty Cox; and three brothers, Robert, Warren, and Gary Nicholson.
Mrs. Fortune was a 1972 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School. While living in Clarksburg she worked for Clarksburg Drug Company and Pantry Stores Incorporated and attended Nutter Fort Baptist Church. Karen later retired as a Purchasing Agent for Macy’s Corporation.
Karen enjoyed keeping up with her little girls and knowing where they were at all times. She loved her cats and dogs and supported Worcester stray and feral rescue programs. She enjoyed taking care of others, loved her family, and sharing their history through stories and photographs. She also enjoyed traveling to the beach and visiting lighthouses along the northeast coast.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St, Worcester, MA 01606 and/or the American Cancer Society.
