Robert “Bob” Joseph Zontek, a beloved resident of Harrison County for over eight decades, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025.  He was 86.

Born on May 29, 1939, Bob was the son of the late Joseph Robert Zontek and Betty Louise Dye Schilling. On November 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Lucinda “Cindy” Mae Queen, who survives him. Together, they raised five children: Robby Zontek, Vicki Teel (James), Debbie Mann (Michael), Sarah Hanback (Robert), and Greta Zontek.

A graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School, Bob went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. His commitment to his country inspired him to serve another 22 years in the WV Army National Guard Corps of Engineers, retiring as 1st Sergeant.

In his civilian career, he began as a lineman for the Monongahela Power Company. Through dedication, hard work, and a degree from Salem College, he worked his way up the ranks to become a surveyor engineer. He also made a positive impact on his community, offering his handyman and electrician skills while volunteering with the Nutter Fort Fire Department. In his free time, he loved fishing and hunting with his sons-in-law and grandchildren, as well as enjoying numerous camping trips with his wife and their camping club.

Bob was a loved and respected “Papaw” to 12 grandchildren: Skyler, Nathan, Cameron, and Megan Teel; Josh Zontek; Corey and Hunter Mann; Madison Hanback; Macy Cohen; and Chase and Drew Brannon; and Trey Zontek. He also cherished his six great-grandchildren, who brought him so much joy.

Bob was known for his wisdom, captivating stories, humor, and unwavering courage. His heart for his church, service, and helping others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He is now joyfully living a blessed life in his new heavenly home, walking the streets of gold with Jesus and many friends that have preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home in Nutter Fort, WV, on Thursday, September 11, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 12, at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at the National Cemetery in Grafton, WV, at 1:00 PM.
