Family and friends may call at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home 201 Edison Street Nutter Fort on Tuesday January 10th from 12 noon to 4:00 pm.  The funeral service will be held at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home on Wednesday January 11, 2017 at 10:00 am with the Rev Thomas Horne officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi.

Irene Hazel Bullough Bates, 96 of Stonewood was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father January 7, 2017 following an extended illness. She was born in Rockford, WV on April 12, 1920 a daughter of late Howard and Nada Simmons Grogg.

She was preceded in death by her first husband William Bullough, and is survived by her second husband Ernest Bates Jr. whom she married in 1981.

Also surviving are one son Michael Bullough and his wife Terry of Bridgeport and one daughter Carol Hardman and her husband Ralph of Clarksburg and one step daughter, Nancy Bates and husband James Bond of Parkersburg, WV.

Seven grandchildren Toy Hardman, Ralph Hardman II, LeeAnn Wiles (Timothy), Dwight Bullough (Kiesha), Sarah Cecil (Edwin), Laura Cochran (Brian), Eric Earnest (Melissa); Ten great grandchildren Nikki, Amber, and Rece Hardman, Molly and Mallory Wiles, Dylan Cecil, Claire and Andrew Cochran, Morgan and Mackenzie Slavensky; three great great grandchildren Justyce Corley, Peyton and Sammy Mazza along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bates was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Irene was a proud graduate of Philippi High School class of 1939. She retired as a LPN from Dr. Mendoza office.  She was member of the Lifeway Bible Fellowship Church and a Prayer Warrior for Channel 46 and lead many to Christ.
