Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  There will be an F.O.P. Service at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation.   The service will be held at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Michael Burge presiding.   Interment will follow in the South Chestnut I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Jack Edwin Chipps, 86, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.

 

He was born in Pennsboro, WV, on July 6, 1931, a son of the late Okey John and Della Stewart Chipps.

 

He is survived by his wife, Chloe Ann Evans Chipps, whom he married on August 22, 1953.

 

Also surviving are two sons, Jack Edwin Chipps II and wife Angie of Clarksburg and John Thomas Chipps and wife Carla of Clarksburg; one daughter, Susan Oliverio McGill and husband Don of Doylestown, OH; eight grandchildren, John Michael Chipps, Brian Chipps and wife Christina, Rebecca Ann Chipps, Danny Phillips, Catherine Oliverio Williamson and husband Rob, Salvatore Oliverio and wife Sarah, Dominic Oliverio and wife Lauren, and Vincent Oliverio; 24 great-grandchildren; and his dogs, “Pepe”, “Buddy” and “Sadie”.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Evans Chipps; one great-granddaughter, Gwen Chipps; one son-in-law, Dr. Salvatore Oliverio; and two sisters, Ruth Stackpole and Sarah Crim.

 

Jack was a graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1950, and received his Associates Degree from WVU Parkersburg.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, and retired as a Sergeant from the Clarksburg Police Department in 1981.  After his retirement he became Chief of Security at the United Hospital Center.  He worked for the former Sheriff Joe Trupo as Chief Deputy, was an Inspector for the State Department of Highways, and landman for Panther Fuel Company. He previously worked at Adamston Flat Glass for nine years. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy 88th session, and a graduate of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

 

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Herman Lodge # 6 AF & AM, 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in the Clarksburg bodies, and the Nemesis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg.  He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and was honored as the oldest living member.  He was member of the WVU Alumni Association, and a lifetime member of the USCGC INGHAM Association.

 

Jack was an avid reader, and was a very giving person, but most of all Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and all of those who knew and loved him.
