Barbara Rose Tomaro Tiano, 95, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 3, 2026.

Barbara was born in Clarksburg on December 9, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Tomaro and Mary Rogers Tomaro.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William E. Tiano, Sr.; one son, William E. Tiano, Jr.; two brothers, Carmen A. Tomaro (Betty) and Joseph C. Tomaro, Jr.

She is survived by her two children, Mary Beth Barberio and her husband John of Clarksburg, and Robert Joseph Tiano and his wife Lisa of Clarksburg. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Sandy Tomaro, Clarksburg, Kay Tiano, Michigan; daughter-in-law Alana Pazdric, Fairmont, and son-in-law Tom Day, New York.
Barbara’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Natalie Oliverio, Emily Howe (Stephen), Gia Tiano (Robert “Peep”), William Tiano, III, Robert Tiano, II, Molly Barberio, Tyler Tiano (Shannon), and Damon Oliverio; and her great-grandchildren, Laila Tiano, Isabella Oliverio, Roman Anthony Nelson, and Emmett Guthrie, who will forever carry her love and wisdom in their hearts.

Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Washington-Irving High School, where she prided herself on being a majorette. She organized over 50 class reunions, several of which she proudly hosted in her home.
Barbara was a member of the Saint James Catholic Church. She was a strong person of faith and loved her church. Through her years at Saint James, she was very active in fundraising, Altar Rosary Society, and various parish committees. She loved being a lector, and she proudly trained other lectors to read the Word of God.

Barbara was a talented artist. She was involved in several art shows with beautiful paintings, and was proud to be a juried West Virginia artist, and that her original, hand-painted slates were represented in the Fine Arts Gallery at the Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, West Virginia. For 40 years at the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, she painted a beautiful Italian picture and raffled it with all proceeds going to her parish at Saint James Catholic Church. Many of her paintings were inspired by her trip to Italy in 1974 with her husband, Bill. When she returned from Italy, she knew she wanted to paint and believed her talent was truly a gift from God. She always thanked God for her talents as an artist, pianist, seamstress, cook, and baker.

Barbara has spent a lifetime sharing her love of cooking, teaching countless people the joy of preparing good food, and opening her home and heart to everyone who walked through the door. Her kitchen has always been a place of warmth, laughter and learning, and her table has always had room for one more. She lived by a simple but beautiful rule: no one ever leaves her house hungry. Her greatest recipe has never been just about food, but about love, generosity, family, friends, and making everyone feel welcome.

Barbara was a beloved figure in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was adored for her unwavering love, her warm smile, and her caring heart. Her most treasured moments were those spent with family gathered around a table filled with laughter, stories, love, and great food. She was most proud of her role as a homemaker. She found real joy in her family’s company, especially at holidays and family traditions, whether cooking every Sunday, or Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. She cherished Christmas Eve, as it ended with her family attending Christmas Eve Mass. Her life was a testament to the power of faith, love, family, and friends. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness and profound love for her family and friends, that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and WVU Hospice at United Hospital Center for their wonderful care of Barbara. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Michael Angotti for his compassionate care of Barbara for many years.
