Stephen Dale “Steve” Helmick, 83, of Fairmont, WV, passed away on June 11, 2026 at the Wishing Well Nursing Facility.

He was born in Clarksburg on February 17, 1943, a son of the late Martin Dale and Mary Smith Helmick,

Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy Helmick, who resides in Fairmont. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Stephen D. Helmick, II of Fairmont; one daughter, Tina Helmick Eskew and husband Jeff of Stafford, VA; five grandchildren, Jacob Helmick and wife Kaylee, Bree Helmick, and Kyle, Reese, and Paige Johnson; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Helmick of Bridgeport; one sister, Mary Pearson of Sarasota, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

Steve was a graduate of Bridgeport High School where he was a star football player. He previously worked for Fourco Glass Company and Bob Andrew Mining Company, and later retired from LaRosa Fuel as a heavy equipment operator, helping build Pete Dye Golf Club. 

When Steve was not working, you could find him behind the wheel of the No. 10, Helmick’s Market race car. His favorite racetracks included, Interstate 79 Speedway, Elkins, Morgantown, Pennsboro, and St. Clairsville, OH. 

In keeping with the families wishes, cremation services will take place.

There will be no public visitation or funeral.
