Joanne W. Simpson, a cherished member of the Clarksburg community and a beloved matriarch, has lived a life rich with love, commitment, and creativity. Born on July 8, 1934, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Joanne was the cherished daughter of Harold and Fairie (MiMi) Westfall. Her early years were filled with the warmth of family and the values instilled by her parents, which she carried throughout her life.
Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald F. Simpson, with whom she shared a steadfast partnership. Their union was blessed with the joy of children and the deep love of family. She was also preceded in death by her son Gregg W. Simpson, brothers Claude Z. (Zeb) Westfall and H. Donald (Donny) Westfall, and nephew Jeffrey L. (Jeff) Westfall. Each of these losses was profound, yet Joanne’s strength and grace remained a testament to her resilience.
Surrounded by a devoted family, Joanne’s legacy continues through her daughters, Kimberly Simpson and Tracy LaBenne, who have always been the pride of her life. Her grandchildren, Meredith LaRue Metcalfe, Samantha Dorsey, Andrew Simpson, and Erin Simpson Lear, were the lights of her life, bringing her endless joy and fulfillment. Joanne also held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Levi Simpson, Wendy Simpson, Ava Lear, and David Lear, and her daughter-in-law Leeanne Scribner. Her love extended to her niece, Cindy Westfall Springston, nephews Scott Westfall and Stuart Westfall, and her special cousin, Suzanne Buffington Berman, each of whom were touched by her kindness and generosity.
For many years, Joanne dedicated her professional life as a lab technician in the office of Dr. Keith Pickens, where her diligence and compassion were evident in every task she undertook. Her commitment to her work reflected her broader commitment to her community and the people in it.
Joanne’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Stealey United Methodist Church and later First Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg, WV. Her involvement in these congregations was a testament to her spiritual devotion and her desire to support and uplift those around her.
A woman of many talents, Joanne had a lifelong passion for sewing, knitting, and needlecraft. Her creations were not only beautiful but also a reflection of the love and care she infused into every stitch. These hobbies were a source of joy and relaxation, offering her a creative outlet and a way to express her love for family and friends through handmade gifts.
Joanne’s life is a tapestry woven with threads of love, dedication, and community service. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those she touched and in the legacy of grace and strength she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in Joanne’s memory to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting her spirit of giving and generosity.
