Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Catholic Funeral Rites will be held at 6:00 p.m. following the visitation with Father Walt Jagela presiding. Following the funeral rites, Mrs. Talerico’s will be cremated. A private family inurnment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.

Altha J. Talerico, 89, of Hepzibah, WV, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the United Hospital Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Spelter, WV, on February 6, 1935, a daughter of the late William and Lucille Swisher Powell.

Her husband of 60 years, Alex A. Talerico, preceded her in death on February 27, 2016.

Mrs. Talerico is survived by her daughter, Saundra Spatafore of Bridgeport; two grandchildren, Matthew Spatafore and wife Jessica of Bridgeport, and Emily Heise and husband Caleb of Bridgeport; four great grandchildren, Matteo Spatafore, Nico Spatafore, Addison Heise, and James Heise. She also leaves behind her brother, William Powell of Hepzibah, and sister, Linda Knight of Mineral Wells.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Hailey Heise; brother, Donald Powell; and son-in-law, Tony Spatafore Jr.

Altha was a graduate of Victory High School and started her retail career at Parsons Souders and saw the progression of the company into Stone and Thomas and then retired from Elder Beerman. Over the years, she met many people and became a well-known figure at the Store.

Altha’s love language was baking and cooking, bringing her great joy feeding the people she loved. Above all, she loved her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church. Altha and her girlfriends were proud members of the self-proclaimed Hepzibees.
