Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   The service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken Kelley presiding.   Interment will follow in the Stonewall Park Cemetery.

Betty Lou Dean Shingleton, 87, of Stonewood, WV, went to be with the Lord following a brief illness on August 13, 2017, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

 

She was born in Stonewood, WV on December 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Perry E. “Pete” Dean and Bessie Belle Parsons Dean.

 

Her husband, Lawrence T. “Pickle” Shingleton, preceded her in death on July 27, 2002.

 

Mrs. Shingleton is survived by three children, Danny J. Shingleton and wife Susan D Shingleton of Stonewood, Judy E. Taylor and husband Gary Taylor of Bridgeport and Timothy L. Shingleton and wife Regina Gower Shingleton of Mt. Clare; seven grandchildren, Anika N. “Nikki” Nelson Washington and her husband James A. Washington of Nutter Fort, Chad M. Taylor and his wife Cherra and son Tavares of Clarksburg, Cory Shingleton and his wife Ashley of Stonewood, Davida and her husband Jerry Levine of Florida, Chad and April Swiger of Lost Creek, Jeannette Swiger of Stonewood and Josh Swiger of Mount Clare; one brother, Harry Dean of Edgewood; one sister, Mildred “Midge” Moneypenny of Mt. Clare; a sister-in-law, Madeline Dean of Mt. Clare; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, E.J. “Diz” Dean and James E. Dean and two sisters, Evelyn Dean Alton and Louise Dean Stewart.

 

Betty attended Roosevelt Wilson High School and enjoyed writing poetry.

 

Mrs. Shingleton attended the Stonewood Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was very active in the United Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School and served on the board. She also sang in a gospel group with her brother, Harry, which were some of her fondest memories later in life. She enjoyed being a caregiver with a number of the elderly in the local area. She formally worked at Colombo’s Market in Stonewood and that’s where she met her husband Lawrence “Pickle” Shingleton. Christmas morning breakfast with her family was amazing.
