Family and friends will be received at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street Nutter Fort on Sunday from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM in the funeral home to conclude visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Akila Rodrigo as celebrant.   Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.   A Memorial Service will be held in Morgantown at a later date.

Carmela Palagino Fiands, age 94, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in Morgantown, where she resided at Heritage Pointe. She was born September 11, 1924 in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Frank Palagino and Lucia Costa Palagino.  Her husband of almost 50 years, William J. Fiands preceded her in death September 1, 1999.

 

Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Franklin, Karon Winter and her husband Rick of Pennsylvania, and Sharon Dixon and her husband Charles of Morgantown. One granddaughter Cayla Garcia and husband David of New Orleans; one grandson Alexander Winter and wife Cassandra; and five great grandchildren, Aveny Garcia, Gemma Garcia, Miles Garcia, Marlo Garcia, and Theodore Winter.  And, one sister Frances Pandora of Clarksburg.

 

In addition to her parents and her husband, Carmela was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Rose Nardella, Geraldine Pulice, and John Peters Palagino.

 

Carmela was a graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1941. She was a former finance officer for the Harrison County Schools from 1945 to 1953.  She was a long-time member of the US Bowling Congress and her local Lion’s Club.  When a member of the St. James Catholic Church, she sung in the choir in addition to being a member of the Altar Rosary Society.  While residing at Heritage Pointe, Carmela enjoyed playing bridge, socializing with her many friends, and attending mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
