Friends will be received at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Rapking and Reverend Jim Murphy officiating.   Interment will follow the services at Rose Hill Cemetery in West Milford.

Doris Ann Bowyer, 83, of Isaac’s Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 6, 2018, after an extended illness.

 

She was born in Harrison County, on July 25, 1935, a daughter of the late Nathan Layfield Morrison, Jr. and Geraldine Ross Morrison.

 

Mrs. Bowyer is survived by her husband of 62 years, William W. “Bill” Bowyer; three children Matt E. Bowyer and wife Lisa, Zoe Ann Bowyer Woodard and husband Bobby Lee, and Edward L. Bowyer; six grandchildren, Jonah Bowyer and wife Eriel, Josh Bowyer, Nathan Woodard and wife Estie, Kyra A. Woodard Brodwater and husband Gary, Bobby Hill and Stevie Hill; eight great-grandchildren, Brody, Dalton, Dominic, Cleo, Eliza, Tripp, Everlee, and Baron; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Rosalee Morrison Pituch.  Also surviving are her beloved pets of fifteen years, Tuffy her dog, and Scooter her cat.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Deloris Morrison Wolfe; one brother, Nathan Layfield “Pete” Morrison, III; and one nephew, Douglas A. Wolfe.

 

Mrs. Bowyer loved reading, collecting bells, and spending time with her family.  After high school she graduated from West Virginia Business College, Clarksburg.  She held a variety of interesting jobs over the years in addition to raising a family.  She was a general ledger bookkeeper at Empire Bank and a dental hygienist both jobs in Clarksburg.  In DuBois, PA she worked for JC Penney as a sales associate and also as a billing clerk at DuBois General Hospital.  In Wellsville, OH she was a church secretary for a large United Methodist Church.  In Dover, PA she enjoyed being active in her church and community.  Mrs. Bowyer and her family returned to the family farm outside of Good Hope, WV in 1987.  Her final employment, which she enjoyed tremendously, was as secretary to Mayor Don Smith at the West Milford Community Center.
