Ethel May Mace Veltri, 85, of Nutter Fort, WV, passed away at her son’s residence in Bridgeport, WV, on Monday, October 30, 2017 following an extended illness.

 

She was born in Anmoore, WV, on October 8, 1932, a daughter of the late Ernest and Mabel Carr Mace.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Edward “Eddie” Veltri.

 

Mrs. Veltri is survived by two sons, Criss Veltri of Bridgeport, WV, and Roy Mace of Nutter Fort, WV; one stepson, Joseph Veltri and wife Diane of Lost Creek; nine grandchildren, Lisa K. Wise and husband Stuart, Jeanna Leauma and husband Brian, Joanna Lowe and husband Tim, Michael Veltri, Mark Veltri and wife Meredith, Antonio J. Veltri, Chelsie Boreman, Matthew Mace and Marina Mace; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother, Leroy Mace and wife Barbara of Laurel Valley.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Veltri was preceded in death by one stepson, Felix Veltri Jr., three brothers, Ernest Mace Jr., Eugene Mace, and Hayward Carr; and three sisters, Iris Bourne, Helen Moore, and Ruth Callighan.

 

Ethel was a self-taught local artist who won awards for her art and poetry.  She started out on Joyce Street at the Theater of Arts and was commissioned to paint local billboards and murals.   She also made dolls in replace of the “Cabbage Patch” dolls for children who were less fortunate.

 

She was Methodist by faith.
