Grace Stout Barker, 80, of Clarksburg, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, while in the Pleasant Acres Christian Haven senior community in Fairmont, following an extended battle with dementia.

Grace was born on December 9, 1943, in Wallace, WV, on the Kincaid Farm, the only daughter of the late Steve and Ella Price Stout. She cared for them in their times of need, until their passing.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Barker, who currently resides at the senior community in Fairmont. They were wed on December 17, 1971.

Grace attended school at Folsom, Smithfield, and Wallace. She worked as a caregiver for Rachel Bates and Beulah Beatty until her marriage to Robert. She then began her career at the Kappi Sigma Pi Children’s Home, currently known as the Pressley Ridge School. She provided care for children there for twenty-seven years, until she retired in June of 1999. Upon retirement Grace and Robert returned to Lumberport, and later moved to Clarksburg where she was a member of the Central Church of Christ. She enjoyed camping, flowers, and music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her cousins who were special to her, Kathy Perdue and her husband Roger of OH and Ruth Strange of OH; as well as her special friend, Tim Young, of Barbour county.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. with special friend, Keith Bramel officiating. Entombment will follow.
