Harris Holt, age 91, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Hospice Care at the United Hospital Center.  He was born in Harrison County on August 11, 1924, a son of the late Rolland and Gertrude Harris Holt.

Born in Clarksburg, WV the Holt family resided in Lewis County.  He attended Washington Irving High School after moving to Clay Street in Clarksburg, and during that time he worked with his family, including his brother Bill who owned and operated a restaurant in Glen Elk, now known as Julio’s.  Following graduation, he joined the Marine Corps, and was stationed in Santa Monica, California.

He lived his life always with a smile and a song in his heart.  He loved the music of the 40’s and 50’s, and was known to cut a mean rug at the local watering holes.  While retired, you could often find Harris at a quiet spot, lakes or a golf course behind the wheel of his ride listening to the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra or tapping his feet to Sinatra.

He was the ultimate salesman and retired from the Four Roses Distillery as a Regional Manager.  While retired, there was nothing Harris wouldn’t want to endeavor in; from managing restaurants to country clubs in Florida, being a starter at the Pete Dye Gold Club, to promoting various agricultural products for the golf industry.  He retired in the winter to Ft. Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida, and spent the warm weather months here in Clarksburg with his good friend, James D. LaRosa.

Harris will be remembered for his smile, kindness and the song in his heart.  Harris truly enjoyed spending time with his friends and all that is good that life had to offer.

Upon his request, Harris will be cremated and his remains taken by his family, Jimmy, Leigh Ann, and James LaRosa, to his Heaven on Earth, the Pier at Santa Monica, California.

There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Harris’ life on Friday, July 8, 2016 afrom 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
