Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, where the funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm to conclude the visitation. Pastor Robert VanHorn of the Lost Creek WV Seventh Day Baptist Church will officiate. A private graveside service will follow on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV. Harry will be laid to rest in the Kennedy Family Plot. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gentiva Hospice, 112 Harcourt Rd. Mt. Vernon, OH 43050.

Harry I. Kennedy was born April 5, 1941 in Charleston, WV to Dorsey C. Kennedy, Jr. and Velma Ice Kennedy. He passed away at The Laurels in Mount Vernon, OH on March 24, 2025. He lived in Clarksburg, WV for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife – Nora Virginia “Ginny” Kennedy.
He is survived by his sons David Kennedy, Clarksburg, WV, Jeffrey Kennedy, West Union, WV and James E. Kennedy (Ashley), Clarksburg, WV and Grandchildren: Samantha Williams (Jeremiah), Cody Kennedy, Makayla Kennedy and Kimberly Leary. Great grandchildren: Bowen and Izabella Turner.
He moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio after he married Doris Bond Spaur 28 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Doris and his bonus daughters: Heather A. Lanzer (Terry, Jr.) Mount Vernon, OH and Carrie R. Hess (Travis) Mount Vernon, OH and his bonus granddaughters: Abigail Lanzer and Addison Hess. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law Sharon Bushnell, Ashtabula, OH, Karen Rogers, Jane Lew, WV, Rebecca VanHorn (Darwin), Centerburg, OH and brothers-in-law: Richard C. Bond (Susan), Crossville, TN & Paul Mulligan, Clarksburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Harry was a Funeral Director and owned Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, WV for over 30 years. He also spent many years volunteering with the Clarksburg Fire Department. He faithfully attended the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church in Ohio with his wife Doris. He will be missed by his many friends and church family there. Later as travel became more difficult he and Doris attended the Brandon Baptist Church, Brandon, OH.
He loved woodworking and leaves many of his own creations with many of them given to family members to enjoy. He loved his country home and spent many hours working outdoors creating beautiful flower beds and placing beautiful edgings around the trees and the beautiful flower beds and shrubbery that he planted. He loved the Lord and was faithful in helping those in need. He always had a smile and never met a stranger. The WV hat he wore was always a conversation starter. He loved his native state of WV and one of his favorite sayings was, “Life took me to Ohio, but I’ll always be a Mountaineer.” He was taken care of by so many faithful and loving caregivers at The Laurels of Mount Vernon and also cared for by the loving staff of Gentiva Hospice of Mount Vernon prior to his passing.
There is no visitation or service in Ohio, but local arrangements have been made through the Snyder -Lasater Funeral Home. The visitation and service will be held at the Amos-Carvelli Funeral Home in Nutter Fort, WV.
