Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Thursday, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James Catholic Church, 2107 Pride Avenue, Clarksburg, with Father Alika Rodrigo as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Mausoleum, where full military rites will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard.

Henry Alvarez, 95, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on March 26, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.

 

He was born in Spelter, WV, on February 24, 1922, a son of the late Eugene and Mary Vega Alvarez.

 

He married Lucy Costa Alvarez on December 29, 1946, who resides at their home in Clarksburg.

 

He is also survived by one son, Henry E. “Weed” Alvarez and wife Sue of Leesburg, FL; one daughter, Mary Jo Bragg Lopez and husband John of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Paul Alvarez and Wendy Kerekes of Clarksburg, Josh Alvarez and wife Jennifer of Ocala, FL, Heather Procz and husband Jim of Cabot, PA, and Felicia Eddy and husband Drew of Clarksburg; extended grandchildren Jon and Gina Calvert, John F. Lopez, and Mike & Jaclyn Lopez; great grandchildren, Palmer Hall, Hunter Davisson, Sadie Alvarez, Vivian Procz and Adriana Eddy; extended great grandchildren, Isabella Lopez, Mary Calvart, Jon Calvert, Lilly Lopez, and Roman Lopez. One brother, Paul Alvarez and wife Edith of Langloth, PA as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Herman Alvarez, Joe ”Kelly” Alvarez, Raymond “Huskie” Alvarez, David Alvarez, Louie Alvarez and Richard Alvarez.

 

Henry was a graduate of Victory High School, and a veteran in the U.S. Army 99th Infantry Battle of the Buldge. He retired from AFG Glass Plant with 33 years of service.

 

He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Meuse Argone Post # 573 VFW and the Elks Lodge. He was an avid gardener.

 

The family extends a special thank you to his caregivers, Pam Starkey, Shelley Merriner Matheny, Charlotte Ferrell, Chyrell Weekley, Amedisys Hospice, Veteran’s Administration Hospital and staff.
