In keeping with his request, Jim will be cremated.   There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm with Reverend Del Parris and Pastor Jeff Hanlin officiating.

James William McGahan, II, 77, of Clarksburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in the WV Veterans Nursing Facility.  He was born in Clarksburg on November 18, 1938, a son of the late James William and Lorraine Ross McGahan.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharyn Lane Cottrill McGahan, whom he married March 24, 1961.

 

Also surviving are three sons, James William (Bil) McGahan, III and his wife Lisa of Clarksburg, Patrick Michael McGahan of Clarksburg, and Timothy Page McGahan and his wife Rebecca of Clarksburg.  He was affectionately known by his 11 grandchildren as “Bunkie”, Alana McGahan, Alexandria McGahan Watson and her husband Kyle, Bryan McGahan, Brittany Coberly Goldberg and her husband Mark, Christopher Coberly, Hunter McGahan, James D. (Jay) McGahan and his wife Alaina, James William (JW), McGahan, IV, Kaila McGahan, Michael McGahan, and Nathaniel (Nate) McGahan;  and three great grandchildren, Abram Watson, Dahlia Goldberg, and Raylan McGahan.  In addition, he is also survived by one brother, Thomas L. McGahan and his wife Brenda of Barboursville; one sister-in-law, Lynda Cottrill Trickett and her husband Bill; and several nieces and cousins.

 

Mr. McGahan was a graduate of Grafton High School and attended Furman University.  He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served in Germany with the 14th Troop Carrier Squardon (MATS).  He was proud of the fact that he never missed a day of work in 39 years with C & P, Bell Atlantic and Verizon Telephone Companies.  He was Past President of the Clarksburg Telephone Pioneers, and Past President of WV Chapter #42 Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the North Bend Jamboree for the disabled, and was a Charter Member of the Clarksburg Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS).  He was also a member of the Bridgeport Jaycees, where he held many offices, and the Central Christian Church, where he served as a greeter for many years.  Jim was a great outdoorsman and taught his sons and grandchildren the art of fishing and hunting, and was a member and past officer in the McHomarque Hunting and Fishing Den that his father and uncle built in Glady.  He loved NASCAR and had attended races, but most of all Jim loved the Mountaineers, both basketball and football.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,1299  Pineview Drive #3, Morgantown, WV  26505 or People’s Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330 or the Central Christian Church, 114 S. Chestnut Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
