Jane Nelson Heaberlin Rakestraw, 81, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Morgantown, WV.

She was born in Alderson, WV, on June 27, 1940, a daughter of the late James Caleb and Nell Shanklin Heaberlin.

Mrs. Rakestraw was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Dr. Dariel Rakestraw, on May 26, 2022.
She is survived by two children, Greg Hall and wife Sophia of Eureka, CA, and Allyson “Ally” Hall of Fairmont, WV; four grandchildren, Braeden Hall and Garrett Hall both of CA; Jack Swensson and Jane Swensson both of Fairmont, WV.

Jane was a graduate from Washington Irving High School in 1958 and graduated from West Virginia University in 1962. She continued her education at the University of Delaware earning her master’s degree in Education.

Mrs. Rakestraw was a founder of the Independence School in Delaware. She loved animals, especially her dog Bingo, who she used at the Independence School to teach children the love of animals. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, who had a special bond with her daughter Ally.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Rakestraw will be cremated.
