Obituaries

Jerryann Bennett Powers, 77, of Newton passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Brookdale Hickory Northeast in Hicklry, NC.

She was born July 5, 1940 in Harrison County, WV to the late Edward “Ralph” and Mary Corder Bennett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Ashley Powers and brother, Sammy Edward Bennett.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Barbara Lee Leatherman and husband Mark of Newton, NC; along with her brother Sammy’s children, Joy Bennett, Darrell Bennett and Jeremy Bennett and their families.

Before moving to North Carolina in her daughter’s care, she lived on Buffalo Lake Road, near West Milford, WV.   Jerryann was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church when she lived in Elkton, Maryland, and attended West Milford Baptist Church in West Milford, West Virginia.  She had a great love for animals; her dog, Balahu, was her greatest joy and companion and was treated like a child.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Big Isaac Cemetery in Doddridge County, WV with Reverend Brian Plum officiating.
