Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV on Thursday, March 20th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, 123 South 6th Street, Clarksburg, WV, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Christopher Scott presiding. Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV.

John C. Thompson, Jr., 75, of Clarksburg, WV passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family after a long fight with prostate cancer.
He was born May 19, 1949, in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Dr. John C. and Mary I. Noble Thompson.
He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Sherry Norris of Clarksburg, WV; sisters, Mary Beth Sparta and husband Larry of Berlin, Maryland, and Sherry Ann Caplan and husband Bob of Bridgeport, WV; and brother, Timothy Paul Thompson and wife Lisa of Clarksburg, WV. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces with their children that he loved so, Ross Thompson, Lucy Thompson Cox, Hannah Caplan David, Spencer Caplan, Abby Caplan Reynolds, Timothy Sparta, and Laurie Sparta Flores.
He was a graduate of Washington Irving High School Class of 1967. John graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1971 and was a member of the Emeritus Club and Chi Phi Fraternity. It was at the fraternity that he made some good life-long friends.
He served with the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division as a military policeman, during the Vietnam War Era, at their home base at Schofield Barracks, HI.
John had a wonderful 46-year career in the general insurance business. He worked with a number of agencies in the Clarksburg and Charleston, WV areas. He sat on several company advisory boards and was the Risk Manager for the West Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church for over 25 years.
He was a member of the Clarksburg County Club where he loved playing golf with his friends. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Clarksburg for numerous years.
The family wishes to thank Thomas Hogan, MD, his nurse Marra and Todd Tenenholz, MD for doing their professional best to extend Johnny’s life.
