Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday. February 17, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, WV 26431.

John H. Cooper, Jr., 66, of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 following an extended illness.

He was born in Clarksburg on January 7, 1959, a son of the late John H. and Edith Marie Post Cooper.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Elizabeth Sullivan Cooper, whom he married on November 14, 1980.

Also surviving are one son, Jonathan R. Cooper and his wife Holly of Bridgeport; three daughters, Lindsey Cooper, Kaitlin Ash and her husband Collin, and Karly Cooper, all of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Jillian Cooper, Roman, Lyla and Mia Ash; one brother, James “Jimmy” Cooper and his wife Molly of Bridgeport and their children, Joshua Cooper, Faith Cooper, Hannah McCall, Andie McCall, Lucy Cooper and Eliza Cooper; as well as several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

John was a 1977 graduate of Notre Dame High School and was the Clarksburg City Parks Superintendent for 42 years. He was a member of the Clarksburg Lions Club, member and past President of the WV Recreation of Parks Association, member of the Clarksburg Visitors Bureau and served on many different boards and coached various sports including t-ball, soccer and softball. John had a love for the game of basketball and played in many leagues throughout his life. He was also a member of the Holy Rosary and Immaculate Conception Catholic Churches and the Knights of Columbus.
