Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30pm to conclude the visitation.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at the St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Father Akila Rodrigo as Celebrant.   Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary V. “Nunny” Paletta, 93, of Clarksburg, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born July 29, 1923, in Clarksburg. She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Tiano and Angelina Guzzo Tiano.  Mary is survived by two daughters, Angela Policano and husband, Larry, Clarksburg, and Dr. Diane Paletta and husband, Dr. Reggie McClung, Charleston; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Brian Policano and wife, Whitney, and Matthew Policano, all of Clarksburg; Dr. Kristen McClung Payne and husband Dr. Bryan Payne, Huntington; 9 great-grandchildren, William Policano, Angelina Policano, Mariella Policano, Dominick Bombardiere and Mateo Bombardiere, Clarksburg; Rankin Payne, Wallace Payne, Tommy Payne and Amelia Daisy Payne, all of Huntington; two brothers, John “Sheriff” Tiano, Clarksburg and Joseph A. “Babe” Tiano, and wife, Frances, Bridgeport;  5 sister-in-laws, Barbara Tiano, Clarksburg, Kay Tiano, Michigan, Virginia Paletta Feathers, Clarksburg, Evelyn Pinti, Florida, Laura Paletta, Michigan, and one brother-in-law, Frank Merandi.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, whom she married on April 24, 1948. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Rose Marie Merandi, Clarksburg; three brothers, Felix Tiano, Tennessee; Albert Tiano, Michigan, William Tiano, Sr., Clarksburg.

 

Mary was born in her home in the North View section of Clarksburg, where she resided for her lifetime.   In that same home, at the young age of 16, and after the death of her mother, she assumed the role of raising her 5 brothers.  Her brother Sheriff resided in the same home with her and never left her side during her illness.

 

Nunny, as she was known to all her family and friends, was very devoted to her family. She loved cooking for them and loved when everyone came together to eat, especially Christmas Eve and all the holidays.  No one ever left her house hungry and she never met a stranger.

 

She had several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly and who visited her often. Her devoted caregiver, Mindy, was also a good friend and was considered part of her family.

 

Mary was a Catholic by faith and a member of St. James Church, Clarksburg. She was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America.

 

Nunny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was known for her beautiful smile and generosity.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Harrison County Humane Society or The Juvenile Research Foundation, W. Va. Branch, 3501 MacCorkle Ave., SE #111, Charleston, WV 25304.
