Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 am with Reverend Brian Plum officiating. Interment will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Maxie Prater Ash, 91, of Arthurdale, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at her residence. She was born in S. Clinchfield, VA on August 27, 1926, a daughter of the late Godfrey and Eliza Estep Prater.

 

She was married to Freddie L. Ash on June 27, 1970, who preceded her in death on January 4, 2013.

 

Surviving are three children, Clarence J. Cross, Jr. and his wife Marlene of Arthurdale, Lana J. Cross of North Carolina, and Sheila Ann Meyers of Florida; three step-children, Elizabeth Diane Eagle of Shinnston, Bobby Lee Ash and his wife Debbie of Liberty Addition, and Delena Leach and her husband David of Simpson; one brother, William Prater and his wife Dolly of Ohio, one sister, Pat Miller; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step grandchildren.

 

She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Daniel, Lucille, Thelma, Franklin, Robert, Edford, Radford, and Richard.

 

Maxie worked as a Nurses Aid at St. Mary’s Hospital and United Hospital Center, as a greeter for Hope Gas Company, and was Protestant by faith.
