Peggy Jo Singleton, 88, of Spelter, WV, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at her residence in Spelter.
She was born in Auburn, WV, on February 9, 1936, the daughter of the late Noel and Wilda Summers Powell.
Mrs. Singleton was preceded in death by her husband James Singleton; two children, Thomas Shaffer and James Singleton; her siblings, Jamie Powell and Patty Hart.
Mrs. Singleton was the mother of six children, James Shaffer, of Morgantown, Richard Shaffer, Timothy Shaffer, both of Clarksburg, Jeffrey Singleton of Maryland, Waynetta Singleton of Spelter, and Beverly Singleton of MD; she was grandmother to 18 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann Shaver, brother, George Powell; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and adopted children too numerous to count.
Peggy will be remembered as a supportive and encouraging mother. She was a wise and kind woman, who had a lot of stubbornness as well. She was proud of all her family, and never saw bad in anyone. They were each precious to her and considered her family the success story of her life.
Peggy would never hesitate to share the little food or space in her home with others who were in need. Pocessing a true servant’s heart, Peggy faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking and baking from scratch, sewing, crafting or just a simple shoulder and ear to lean on. Peggy had a simple life and was a woman who lived life on her own terms, surrounded by family and friends who will always hold fond memories.
She played cards, games, cooked, bowled and played like a pro. She laughed with the boys until the wee hours long after the last pin dropped.
The urn that Peggy’s earthly remains will be held in nicely sums up in one sentence. How fondly she will be remembered. Our Angel that lived, laughed, loved and cried!
Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated, and a private Memorial Service will be held.
