Obituaries

Robert Harold Smith of Clarksburg, WV, son of Thomas B. and Cora (Adams) Smith was born October 29, 1927, in Illmo, Missouri, in Scott County. He departed this life on July 10, 2017, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV, after an extended illness, at the age of 89 years 8 months and 11 days.

He served his country faithfully during WWII in the US Army and was stationed in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1947.

Bob, the youngest of the Smith family, was raised in Missouri. After returning home from the Army, he married and started a family.  Bob moved his family from Missouri to Florida in 1957, and there raised 3 children.

On May 19, 1985, he was united in marriage to Cathy Sue Kelley and to this union one son was born. Bob and Cathy shared 32 years together and many wonderful memories.

Bob made his decision early in life to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. At the time of his passing he attended Christian Assembly Church in Clarksburg.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one son who died in infancy, David E Smith; one son-in-law, Thomas Perry; 4 brothers, Thomas, Jimmy, Louis, and Hubert (infancy); 4 sisters, Georgia, Ethel, Juanita, and Geneva; in addition to 3 half-siblings.

Bob leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Cathy and son, Robert Paul Smith, of the home. He is also survived by a son, Jerry Smith and wife Nina of Jupiter, Florida; two daughters, Judith Perry of Lebanon, Missouri, and Janet Allen and husband Larry of Richland, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, as well as several other relatives and friends.

Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind, caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Per his request, he will be cremated.

There will be a memorial service at the Christian Assembly Church, 316 Buckhannon Pike, Clarksburg, on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Fred Aves presiding.

Inurnment will be held at the WV National Cemetery on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
