Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 AM.   Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Pollard officiating.   Interment will be in the Seventh Day Baptist Church Cemetery.

Shirley A. Akers, 73, of Lost Creek, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at her residence.  She was born in Lost Creek on May 8, 1943, a daughter of the late Lester and Nora Kelly Wheeler.

 

She was married to Emerson Curry Akers, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2006.

 

Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Collins and her husband David of Kingston, OH; one granddaughter, Sarah Mettler and her husband Zach of Kingston, OH.  Three great grandchildren, Josephine, and twin siblings Cohen and Emersyn Mettler.  One brother, Jim Wheeler and his wife Marlea of Elkins, along with several nieces and nephews,  And Linda Grimes whom she thought of as a daughter along with her husband Gene Grimes and their children Rheba Myers and husband Cody, and Jesse “Bubby” Grimes; and a dear family friend, Jennifer Cogar.

 

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, George and Jack Wheeler and three sisters, Katie Hill, Marie Carpenter and Bonnie Hockman.

 

Mrs. Akers was a retired glassworker at Eagle Convex Glass Factory with 23 years of service.
