Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Monday, January 14, 2019, from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with preacher Craig Swearingen presiding.   Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Stephen “Craig” Johnston, 64, of West Milford, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at his residence from complications arising from esophageal cancer.

 

He was born in New Martinsville, WV, on December 20, 1954, a son of the late Royal “Brooks” and Betty Zane (Kiggans) Johnston.

 

He was married on August 10, 1973, to his high school sweetheart Jeanie Marie (Darling), who resides at their home in West Milford.

 

He is also survived by two daughters, Melinda Joyce Sisk and husband BJ of Buckhannon, WV, and Jennifer Nicole Doak and husband Joshua of Pittsburgh, PA; two grandchildren (Pappy’s pride and joy), Lyla Madeline Doak and Eva Scarlett Doak; one sister, Paula Sue Huet and husband Fred of Clarksburg, WV; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

 

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jessica “Brooke” Johnston, in 2003.

 

Craig was a graduate of Valley High School in Pine Grove in 1973. During high school, he was involved in many plays and also directed the Christian musical “Tell It Like It Is” two years in a row. Right out of high school, he started work at the gas company in the mailroom. Craig worked his way up and retired from Dominion Transmission in 2013 as Manager of Gas Control with 39 years and 9 months of service. He enjoyed the challenges of his job and made many lifelong friends throughout the years.

 

Craig was a dedicated member of the Meadowbrook Church of Christ, where he was an elder and song leader. He had a passion for music and singing and was also a member of the Coon’s Run Homecoming Choir. Craig was an avid hunter and fisherman; his love being turkey hunting. In his spare time, he also enjoyed reading and gardening. Craig was a member of the West Milford Volunteer Fire Department, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and a former member of the Elks.
