Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 2:00 pm until the time of service which will be at 6:00 pm, with Reverend J J Roller officiating.   A family committal service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 1:00 pm, in the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer, WV.

Thomas Gordon Gribble, 89, of Clarksburg, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his residence.  He was born in Spencer, WV on February 23, 1927, a son of the late Oak and Ottie Cheuvront Gribble.

 

He is survived by his wife, Nella Allen Gribble, whom he married on March 26, 1948.

 

Also surviving are two God-daughters, Linda Dodd Fluharty and her husband, Robert of Charleston, and Elizabeth Wolfe Fox and her husband William of Summerfield, NC; one nephew, John Michael Vineyard; one great niece and three great nephews.

 

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Gribble; one sister, Ruth Gribble Vineyard; and one niece, Janet Vineyard Portillo.

 

Mr. Gribble was a 1944 graduate of Spencer High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater as a Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class during WWII, and was retired superintendent at the Bridgeport District of Consolidated Natural Gas with 38 ½ years of service.

 

He was a member of the Stealey United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board and was Trustee at various times and a member of the Chancel Choir.  He was a 50 year member of the Sunny Croft Country Club, where he enjoyed the spirit of competition and camaraderie of other golfers.  He was also a Commissioned Admiral in the Cherry River Navy in Richwood WV.

 

Mr. Gribble loved music and played the drums in his high school band, along with timpani drums in the All State Orchestra.  He also participated in the “Out of the Whirlwind” pageant along with the symphonic chorus under the direction of Anna Mae Combs.

A family committal service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 1:00 pm, in the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer, WV.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to People’s Hospice, P. O. Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV 26302 or the American Cancer Society, 122 High Street, Morgantown, WV 26505, or the Stealey United Methodist Church, 521 Milford Street, Clarksburg WV 26301.
