Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Mr. Currey will be taken to the North View United Methodist Church to lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service, which will be held at 11:00 am with Reverend Jim Burrough officiating. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Virgil Arthur “Art” Currey, 78, of Bridgeport passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital.

 

He was born in Bridgeport on October 12, 1941 a son of the late Wayman Virgil and Helma Marie West Currey.

 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen Boyce Currey; two children, Edward Arthur Currey and his wife Kathy of Clarksburg, and Suzanne Marie Currey and fiancé Norman Sandy of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren, Megan Nicolle Currey Albright and her husband Jason of Lumberport, Nathan Edward Currey of Bridgeport, Jonathan Pearce Currey and his fiancé Calista McWilliams of West Milford, Lillian Faith Currey of Clarksburg, Olivia Grace Currey of Clarksburg, Omega Joel Currey of Clarksburg, Isaac Jayden Currey of Clarksburg, Elijah Andrew Currey and his fiancé Precious Jade Gregory of Nutter Fort, and Abigail Nicolle Currey of Bridgeport; two great grandchildren, Bray Pearson Currey and Lynly Ryder Currey, as well as two great-grandsons on the way; two step-great grandchildren, Colton and Elijah Albright; three sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Gaughan, Jeanie Jorgenson and Darlene Boyce; one brother-in-law, Gary Boyce and his wife Judi; several nieces and nephews; and his furry friend, Toby the dog.

 

Mr. Currey was graduate of Bridgeport High School where he also played football and was a retired crane operator at Union Carbide Corporation with 37 years of service. He was a member of Local Union Carbide 3-276 and was an officer in the Union Carbide Credit Union.

 

Art was a member of North View United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and loved singing in the choir. He loved fishing and taking his grandsons hunting. He was also a WVU football fan, loved working on cars, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
