Virginia Eloise Hicks, 86, passed away peacefully into eternal life on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Meadowview Manor in Bridgeport after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.

She was born in Parkersburg, WV on December 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Everett and Goldie Lowers Sams.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Powell and Bill Sams, and her only sister, JoAnn Wilson.

Welcoming her with open arms is her husband, Harold Hicks, who left this earth on August 6, 2012, and has been watching and waiting to have his Ginny back. We can only imagine their joyous reunion.

Ginny is survived by two sons, Bill Hicks of Nutter Fort and his companion Ellen Propst of Philippi, and Jeff Hicks and his wife Kathy of Greensburg, PA; and one daughter, D’Lorah Kay Belcastro and her husband John of Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Adam Belcastro and his wife Rynea of Mt. Clare, Adrienne Compton and her husband Ryan of Bridgeport, Kevin Hicks and his wife Brooke of Charlotte, NC, Kelley Barnhart and her husband Brett of Fairmont, and Morgan Hicks of Pittsburgh, PA; six great grandchildren, Mason Belcastro, Brielle Compton, Carter Hicks, Hudson Hicks, Blake Barnhart, Brody Barnhart, and a new baby girl Compton expected to arrive in May; and one brother, Everett Sams, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Leesburg, FL.

Ginny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She chose to stay at home and raise her children and was very involved in their activities, from Elementary PTA to RW Mothers Club. She enriched the lives of her grandchildren and loved to laugh with them and attend their school and sports events. Her heart and her home were always full of love for her family and friends.

Ginny lived every day as a true Christian example of God’s love and grace. As a 50-year member of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, she worked tirelessly and selflessly in many capacities. Over the years, she had served as an assistant pianist, past president of the United Methodist Women, teacher of Friendship Sunday School Class, Circle chairman, Youth Fellowship leader and singing in the choir. Her beautiful alto voice, infectious laugh, and positive energy touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Meadowview Manor for caring for our mother with love, compassion, dignity and grace. Your kindness will always be appreciated.
