Walter Warren Lanham, 85, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 9, 2021.

He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on November 10, 1935, a son of the late Walter Edward and Della Morrison Lanham.

On June 7, 1958, he married Frances Jeanne Bennicosa. Together they had two children. Frances preceded him in death on March 9, 2019.

Surviving is one son, Walter Joseph Lanham and his wife Angela of Bridgeport; one daughter, Jan Lanham McNemar of Nutter Fort; and three grandchildren: Johanna V. Garrett and her finance, Nick Tucker of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Jennifer N. McNemar of Morgantown, and Nathan J. Lanham of Bridgeport, and two great-grandchildren: Kali F. Brown and Hudson R. Tucker.

Mr. Lanham was retired from the Union Carbide Corporation with twenty-seven years of service. However, he will be forever remembered as the owner and operator of Bridgeport Skate World. In 1986, his lifelong dream of owning a skating rink came true. With his loving family’s support and God’s guidance, Mr. Lanham purchased the business from Dave and Sue Arnett. His passion was teaching young children as well as older adults how to skate. Mr. Lanham’s “referee shirt” and his contagious smile were his trademarks. Many lifelong memories have been etched in the minds of his patrons of North Central West Virginia. Everyone will remember the calls for “all skate”, “couple skates”, and the blaring music that always followed. No one can ever forget the iconic white maple floor and the nostalgic building.

Walter was also a member of the Roller-Skating Association, Founders Foreign Sports Car Club, and the Centipede Car Club. Mr. Lanham was a Baptist by faith and attended Life Way Bible Fellowship.

Family and Friends may call Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Thursday, May 13, 2021, from 3-8 P.M.
