Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where a celebration of David’s life will take place on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Austin Lynch officiating. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV at 1:00 PM In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Casey’s House Hospice, 6001 Muncaster Mill Rd, Rockville, MD 20855.

David Nelson Dorvitt, born March 23, 1941, in Clarksburg, WV, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Rockville, Maryland, after a year-long battle with bladder cancer. He was 83 years old.

A 1959 graduate of Washington Irving High School, David went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief. During his distinguished military career, he was stationed overseas in Scotland, Guam, and Spain and also served at the Pentagon. He dedicated his life to his country with honor and commitment.

David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, known for his compassion, quick wit, and strong character. He had a passion for reading, classical music, and chess, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also had a special love for coffee, dark chocolate, and convertible rides. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Kessler Dorvitt and Vevia Willa Dorvitt. David is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Toni Paulette Campbell Dorvitt; his daughter, Shelley Ann Rasmussen and her husband, Paul Rasmussen, of Clarksburg, WV; his sons, Douglas Bruce Dorvitt of Salisbury, NC, and Jason Dorvitt of Pasadena, MD; and his grandchildren: Kelley Ann Troeh (Steven Troeh), Sean Patrick Vinson, Scott Thomas Vinson (Melinda Vinson), Jonathon Michael Dorvitt, Joshua Richard Dorvitt, Joseph Douglas Dorvitt, Jacob Mathew Dorvitt, and his step-grandson, Aidan Rasmussen. He also leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren.

David’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at Casey’s House hospice for their compassionate care.
