Friends and family may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Shingleton presiding. Interment will follow in the West Union Masonic Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded.

Cecil David Maxwell, 86, of Stonewood passed away on September 12, 2019 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center.

 

He was born in Moundsville, WV on August 22, 1933, a son of the late Clarence Cecil Maxwell and Dollie Charlotte Poling Shelhammer.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Betty JoAnn Ross Maxwell.

 

Surviving him is his son David R. Maxwell and wife Penny of Concord, N.C.; grandson Josh Maxwell and wife Crystal of Quiet dell; two granddaughters, Christy Wright of Concord, N.C., Julie Grigg and husband Terrance of Charlotte, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Jenna, Jaxson and Brody Maxwell and Gabe Wright; his brother Charles “Chuck” Shelhammer and wife Debra of Clarksburg; as well as his faithful companion, his cat Buddy.

 

Also preceding him in death are two brothers, Ronald Brent Maxwell and Robert Keith Maxwell and one sister, Lisa Grace Shelhammer.

 

Mr. Maxwell was a route salesman for Broughton Milk Company. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #573 and American Legion Post #13. He retired from Stonewood Volunteer Fire Department where he served as President. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed watching his grandchildren.
