Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Friday, June 10 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.   The funeral service will be held at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gina Stewart and Reverend Cliff Schell presiding.     Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Charles Frederick Lindsay, 89, of Nutter Fort, WV, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2016 at Beacon Place Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, NC.

 
He was born at 214 Broadway Avenue in Clarksburg, WV, on May 21, 1927, a son of the late David Elliot and Gertrude Wood Lindsay.

 
His wife who he married on May 17, 1948, Lillian “Maxine” Bowen  Lindsay, preceded him in death on November 22, 1983.
Mr. Lindsay is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Lindsay Kinkade and husband Daniel of Greensboro, NC; one step-daughter, Pamela Jane Hughes and husband Gerald of Kincheloe, WV; four step-grandchildren, Diana Hughes Titus, Timothy Hughes, Lynn Hughes, and Kimberly Hughes Posey; as well as several great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are one sister, Dolores Gribble Martin, of Charleston, WV and one nephew, Robert Lindsay, of Richmond, VA.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Louise Keller Miller, Robert Glenn Lindsay, and Charleen Ann Kinder.

 
Charles was a proud graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School class of 1946, where he was president of his class.  He was an outstanding trumpet and basketball player.  Mr. Lindsay retired from the Clarksburg Fire Department and in 1989, he retired from the Harrison County Board of Education. He was a beloved custodian at Liberty High School and he kept connected with many students for the remainder of his life.

 

He was a member of the Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, the Broadway Men’s Group and the Liberty High School Retirees’ Group.  Charles was active with the Roosevelt Wilson High School Alumni and was an avid WVU fan. For years, he traveled with the sports editor of the Clarksburg Exponent Telegram covering various WVU sporting events. Charles was a fixture in the WVU press box for many football seasons.
